Living Essential Oils

One of the oldest and most respected natural therapies known to man is essential oils. I was recently introduced to the many health benefits of essential oils by my friend and colleague, Don McAlvany. Based on his recommendation, I purchased the largest kit available from Young Living Essential Oils (over $1,000), and at present am experimenting with the oils. I am absolutely amazed at what these oils can do.

The three wise men brought frankincense and myrrh to the Christ child. Modern science has now determined that frankincense and myrrh may be two of the most powerful boosters to the body's immune system. In addition, ancient documents from China and Egypt reveal that essential oils were considered such a valuable commodity that they were traded on the world market like gold.

Essential oils are the subtle, volatile liquids, or resins, from plants, shrubs, flowers, trees, roots, bushes, and seeds. They are the regenerating and oxygenating immune defense properties of plants. They are literally the life force of the plant. The three primary elements of all essential oils are hydrogen, carbon, and oxygen.

It has long been assumed by the medical community that diseases such as M.S., Parkinson's, Lou Gehrig's Disease, and Alzheimer's could be treated if an agent was formed that passes the blood-brain barrier. It has now been documented that the agent of sesquiterpenes, found in plants, has the ability to go beyond the blood-brain barrier. High levels of sesquiterpenes are found in the essential oils of frankincense and sandalwood.

The amygdala gland in the limbic system of the brain plays a major role in storing and releasing different kinds of emotional trauma. The primary way to stimulate this gland is through the "sense of smell", better known as aromatherapy. Science has proven that the aroma actually travels to the brain and triggers the thought first, rather than the thought traveling to trigger the smell.

I recently read a fascinating account of Dr. Rene-Maurice Gattesfosse, a French research chemist, who in 1920, accidentally burned himself in his laboratory, resulting in a severe burn on his hand and forearm. He plunged his hand into a vat of lavender oil, thinking it was water. The burning decreased and then ceased within minutes and with subsequent applications the burn healed quickly, completely and with no scarring.

Some of the chief chemical constituents which contribute to the effectiveness of essential oils are as follows. Aldehydes highly reactive organic compounds that are known to be anti-infectious, anti-inflammatory, antiseptic, calming, and sedative. Phenols: probably deadly to bacteria, containing high levels of oxygenating molecules and antioxidant properties. Alcohols: known to be anti-bacterial and anti-viral. This group contains the sesquiterpenol molecules which have recently been proven to cross the blood-brain barrier and increase oxygen around the pineal and pituitary glands. Terpenes: known to aid the liver and kidneys in discharging toxins, antiseptic, anti-inflammatory, anti-viral, anti-bacterial, analgesic, antispasmodic and sedative. Ketones: may help dissolve mucous and promote tissue formation. Esters; anti-fungal and anti-spasmatic properties.

Recent research shows that essential oils placed anywhere on the body will penetrate every cell of the body within 21 minutes.

In order to better understand why essential oils are effective we need to discuss the scientific data on frequency. Frequency is the measurable rate of electrical energy flow that is constant between any two points. A healthy human being resonates at a frequency of between 62 to 78 Hertz during the day. Over fifty years ago, Dr. Royal Rife developed a frequency generator. His research showed that every disease has a certain frequency. He taught that a substance with a higher frequency could destroy a disease of a lower frequency. More recently, the pioneering scientist, Mr. Bruce Tainio, built the world's first "bio-frequency monitor", which can actually test a frequency. He teaches that when our bodies drop to 58 Hz. a cold or flu sets in. At about 55 Hz., candida and fungus begin. Epstein Barr and chronic fatigue syndrome start at about 52 Hz., and cancer sets in at about 42 Hz.

Dr. Gary Young, M.D., the United States leading expert on essential oils, says you can learn a lot about health by testing the frequency of various foods. Processed and canned foods test out from 0-15 Hz. Dry herbs test at 15-22 Hz. Fresh herbs range from 20-27 Hz. And essential oils range from 52 Hz to 320 Hz. (Rose oil is the highest at 320 Hz!)

Clinical research has concluded that essential oils have the highest frequency of any substance known to man, creating a very difficult environment for disease, bacteria, viruses, fungus, etc. to live in. A very prominent French physician, Dr. Jean Valnet, M.D. points out that "pathogenic microorganisms such as viruses and bacteria do not become resistant to essential oils as they do to modern-day synthetic antibiotic drugs." In addition, he states, "essential oils are especially valuable as antiseptics because their aggression toward microbial germs is matched by their total harmlessness to tissue."

There are four grades of essential oils, Grades A, B, C and floral water. Grade A oils are of pure, therapeutic quality, and are usually made from organically grown plants distilled at low temperatures using a steam distillation method. Grade B oils are "food grade"; they may contain synthetics, pesticides, fertilizers, extenders, or carrier oils. Grade C. oils are "perfume grade", and may contain the same type of adulterating chemicals as food grade oils. Floral water is a by product of the distillation process, and may be of very high quality if it is a by-product of Grade A essential oil or of poor quality if it is a by-product of a poor quality oil. It is used in skin and hair care products. It has been estimated that 90% of the essential oils in this country are Grade B and below. Only pure Grade A oils have the full health benefits. Most oils in the essential oil industry are cut with carrier oils, chemicals, and synthetics. When purchasing an essential oil for therapeutic reasons, you must make sure the label guarantees that it is a Grade A uncut essential oil.
